Portrait of Bill
81 cm x 56 cm
I started this quilt in a class with Melissa Burdon. It was
right
outside my comfort zone in many ways:
A portrait, very bright colours, fused
applique,machine quilting;
but I really enjoyed it and am pleased with the result.
It is a gift for my friend Liz, being a portrait of her
husband Bill.

Calm Harbour
100 cm x 90 cm
I made this for a raffle to raise money for the Green Party
of Aotearoa.
The centre panel is from a photo I took of Lyttelton
Harbour,
Canterbury.
The flying geese oval border refers to the birdlife of the
area, which
includes godwits, who migrate every year to Siberia and
back.
The stars are for the mariners of both races, who navigated
to Aotearoa.
The outer border refers to the strong winds of the Roaring
Forties,
which blow around Banks Peninsula.
The raffle raised NZ$1700. |

Love Quilt
56 cm x 75 cm
I was thinking about how many ways we show love - in caring,
helpful
and supportive actions,
rather than endearments and protestations, which can be
contradicted by
selfish or manipulative actions.

Ice-Blink
Hand dyed cottons, machine pieced and quilted..
H: 112mm
W: 124mm
This quilt is about Antarctica
Ice-blink is the pale light in the night sky that showed
ships the
presence of ice over the horizon.
The labyrinth is a symbol of discovery and exploration;
the physical
exploration of the continent and the scientific work
carried out at
present, both in difficult and demanding conditions. The
outer curves
refer to the cold saline currents originating from the
ice, which
ultimately drive the circulation of the world's
currents. The six-sided
form refers to the crystal forms off ice as seen in a
snowflake.

Labyrinth
Machine -pieced, hand-dyed and

cotton with Dacron batting.
H: 126mm
W: 105mm
For
me, the labyrinth symbolises exploration and discovery.
There are many
paths to self-discovery, but all begin in the heart
where the primal
urge to action drives us to our own search - to find our
own light.
In the central portion, the beauty of nature, with
its
subtle colours and transitions, sheds a calm luminosity.
